ADDING R/C AND POWER TO NEW SMALL UK DIESEL SWITCHER

Just for giggles, this whimsical, nominal 7/8th inch scale switcher uses an MDC/Roundhouse switcher power brick. It is powered by six D Cell batteries, hence it is referred to as a D Cell locomotive. It is currently in need of some TLC, as the glue holding the body together decided to unstick.

Best wishes for your project, David Meashey

Hi Dave-

Wow, a convertible loco…now that’s cool. The other day I saw a propeller driven loco, very unique but came with a warning that it was loud and it sure seemed to be.

Actually, I’m going to study your “power plant” to see if it might inspire me in my little loco kit.

Robin;

Propellers are noisy and can be hard on fingers. The ducted fan drive (think electric jet engine) is a better way to go. Just don’t expect it to pull anything other than itself. I built mine into a one liter sparkling water bottle. Ball bearing wheels allow it to scoot while collecting track power. It is rated at 9.9v, but I have never had enough straight track to even come close to that voltage.

Have fun, David Meashey

Dave-

That looks like something the Jetzens would use:)
